How do we install a sump pump?
A proper install takes half a day. Here is what is included in every quote.
- Site check: pit size, discharge route, electrical and where water enters the basement.
- Submersible pump sized to your inflow, with a new check valve so water does not fall back into the pit.
- Discharge line run outside and away from the foundation, not into the sanitary sewer.
- Battery backup and high-water alarm on request, both eligible for the City subsidy.
- Test cycle and cleanup, plus a written warranty on workmanship.

Does the City of Toronto subsidize sump pumps?
Yes. Under the Basement Flooding Protection Subsidy Program, eligible homeowners can claim money back for a sump pump, alarm and battery backup. Since May 1, 2026 the program offers up to $6,650 per property across all eligible work. We handle the permit and give you the paperwork the City asks for.
How long does a sump pump last?
Five to ten years for a quality submersible pump, less if it cycles constantly. If yours is older than seven years or runs every few minutes in dry weather, replace it before spring, not during a storm.
Do I need a battery backup?
If you have a finished basement, yes. Storms that overload the pump are the same storms that knock out power. A battery backup keeps pumping for hours after the power goes.
Can you install a sump pump in a finished basement?
Yes. We cut a small section of floor, install the pit and pump, run the discharge outside and patch the concrete. Flooring near the pit is lifted and set aside, not destroyed.
