Toronto basement flooding subsidy: up to $6,650 back per property
Short answer: the City of Toronto pays part of the cost of backwater valves, sump pumps, battery backups and storm-sewer disconnection. Since May 1, 2026 the maximum is up to $6,650 per property. We do the work and prepare your application package.

How much is the Toronto basement flooding subsidy?
As of May 1, 2026 the City of Toronto offers up to $6,650 per property under the expanded Basement Flooding Protection Subsidy Program. The expanded amounts apply to eligible work completed on or after November 12, 2025. Each type of work has its own lifetime maximum.
What work is eligible?
A home plumbing assessment, backwater valves (up to two) and alarms, a sump pump with alarm and battery backup, and severing and capping the storm sewer or external weeping tile connection. Downspout disconnection is not eligible.
Who can apply?
Owners of single-family homes, duplexes, triplexes and fourplexes in the City of Toronto. You apply online after the work is done.
What documents do I need?
Typically the itemized invoice, proof of payment and the permit and inspection for the work. We prepare the full package for you.
How do I check if my property already got a subsidy?
