Shut off the water
Main shut-off is usually beside the water meter in the basement or a utility room. Turn it clockwise until it stops. For a single fixture, use the small valve under it.
Kill power to the area
If water is near outlets, the panel or an appliance, shut that circuit off at the breaker — only if you can reach the panel without standing in water.
Call and stay on the line
